History of Dinh Cau formation

Dinh Cau was originally just a small temple built around the end of the 17th century to 1937. After many restorations, the Palace became as spacious and spacious as it is now. Regarding the origin of Dinh Cau, there are many different legends. Legend has it that when there was no name Phu Quoc, this entire region was called “Xich Tho” which means red land, under the rule of the Water Dragon Than Nu, the people of Phu Quoc also called Ba Chua Island. She had a son that she loved very much, whom she used to call Uncle. His temperament is very erratic, because he disobeyed his mother to free the imprisoned Iron Star, so he had to sit on the Star’s back forever to guard it even though it had turned to stone. Seeing the scene where he had to endure the rain and the sun, the villagers built a shrine right behind the rocky mountain. People often call it Dinh Cau. Every time I go out to sea, I come to pray to Grandma and Uncle for blessings of peace and smooth sailing.

There is another legend told by a fisherman living in Phu Quoc, according to which Dinh Cau in the past was called Dragon Vuong Than Mieu, the main hall was called Thach Son Dien. Hundreds of years ago, people here lived by fishing. Fishermen who went out to sea encountered fierce waves and never returned. Then one day, a rocky headland suddenly appeared right at the seaport, claiming that Diem Linh Ung people had built a temple to pray for divine protection. According to the story of a fisherman in the 1930s, a fisherman was on a fishing boat when a big wave crashed into the ship’s tank and was about to sink. Thought he was dead, but a large wave tens of meters high pushed the boat up and brought it into the ocean. shore, our ancestors and fellow boatmen all believed that it was the Dragon King’s wave helping fishermen in distress at sea.

During the Nguyen Dynasty, there was a legend recorded that Mr. Tai and Mr. Quy were two siblings, both children of the Holy Mother Princess Ngoc Nuong, the goddess Thien Y A Na according to the beliefs of the ancient Cham people. It is believed that in 1777, Nguyen Anh was pursued by the Tay Son army and took refuge on Phu Quoc Island. Here his ship ran aground on a reef at a dugout. In danger, Nguyen Anh prayed to Lady Ngoc for help. He promised her that after regaining the Kingdom, he would confer on her the title of High Class Spirit God. After praying, suddenly a fisherman on the shore saw the ship stranded, used a forest rope to pull the ship out of that place and bring everyone to safety. After regaining the dynasty, remembering his promise to her, Nguyen Anh ordained her and built a temple in Duong Dong, Therefore, Dinh Cau is a place to worship talented people. Quy is the one who agrees with this hypothesis.

Characteristic and impressive architecture

Dinh Cau is located on a large rocky mountain next to the lighthouse right on the strait, where boats often pass. People here call this place the sacred Holy Land, because the Palace was built on a rock shaped like a turtle – one of the Four Holy Spirits according to the concept of Vietnamese people. That’s why inside the Palace, there is a parallel sentence “Located at the stone head, Quy Danh Hien, protecting the village and protecting the people” which means that the palace is located on a rock shaped like a turtle’s head, shielding the fierce waves to protect the people. healthy.

The palace was built in the Dinh-shaped architectural style, the Palace faces the sea a few hundred meters west of Duong Dong town, in front of the palace there is a screen and a model of a fishing boat going out to sea. The entire temple was built according to a fairly solid neo-renovation architecture but still has the architectural features of a Northern pagoda with a bright red tiled roof and a pillar gate with a curved eaves. Looking on the roof of Dinh Cau Palace, you will see a very prominent image of two dragons flanking the sun and moon. In the main hall, the altar worships Mr. Quy on the right, Mr. Tai on the left along with the left band, Huu ban – the mountain god, the god of wealth and the land.

Dinh Cau stands tall and proud in the face of big waves and strong winds. Natural rock formations look like mountains, very strange on three sides. Surrounding is a rocky beach jutting out from the top of the mountain, adorned with a moss-roofed temple. Dinh Cau was ranked as a provincial historical relic and scenic spot by the People’s Committee of Kien Giang province in 2012.
