For those who come to Ha Tien for the first time, you can look up Google Maps to know where Phu Dung ancient pagoda is and find the right direction. The route to Phu Dung Ha Tien pagoda is very simple, this place is located about 3.5km from Ha Tien bus station and takes about 7 – 8 minutes by car. 

You should follow the route To Chau Bridge – Nguyen Phuc Chu Street – Highway 80 and ask local people to avoid getting lost. Visitors can also freely choose vehicles such as passenger cars, motorbikes or rent a taxi to suit their needs and schedule.

The entrance to Phu Dung ancient pagoda will lead straight to the main hall, where three Buddha statues are worshiped. Most prominent are the rows of lanterns combined from conical hats and bamboo slats, evoking folk and rustic beauty. Right in front of the yard is the 4m high statue of Avalokiteśvara, cast in white cement and is the first place people worship when coming to the temple.

Stepping inside the main hall, visitors will admire the statue of Sakyamuni Buddha in the center, flanked by two great disciples Anan and Ca Lett. There are also 4 large reliefs illustrating 4 important scenes in the Buddha’s life: birth, renunciation, sermon and nirvana.

Not only does it impress with its unique architecture, the legend of Phu Dung Pagoda is also a special point that attracts tourists to this place. The pagoda is associated with the tragic love affair between Governor Mac Thien Tich and female scholar Nguyen Thi Xuan (Auntie Tu). 

Due to the first wife’s jealousy, Ai Co was locked in an upside-down pot for a long time. Although she was lucky to escape death, she later decided to become a nun because she was bored with the situation. After her death, the Governor built a pot-shaped tomb to commemorate her past love.

At the Buddha altar area, you will have the opportunity to admire the Shakyamuni Buddha statue, which was invited by the Governor in 1758. This is an extremely valuable statue, with a sign posted by the temple clearly stating its origin. 

The brass statue of Sakyamuni is solemnly placed in a prime location for visitors to conveniently admire and worship. After a long time, the lines on the Buddha statue are still very sharp, bringing a feeling of dignity and purity.
