Ream National Park – A beautiful eco-destination in Cambodia.

Ream National Park is one of the most famous natural destinations in Cambodia, where the pristine beauty of the jungle, blue sea and rich ecosystem converge. Located only about 18km from Sihanoukville city, Ream is an ideal choice for tourists who love to explore nature, admire wildlife and enjoy a rare peaceful space. With a diverse landscape including mangrove forests, deserted beaches, waterfalls and beautiful trekking routes, Ream National Park promises to bring you a trip full of experiences and differences when traveling to Cambodia.

INTRODUCTION TO REAM NATIONAL PARK

In 1993, Prince Sihanouk appointed the establishment of Ream National Park. The outstanding feature of this National Park is that it is surrounded by mangroves in the inland estuaries.

There are still more than 200 fishermen here who have escaped poverty due to lack of food and basic living materials. There is a church school in the national park that was donated by Korean people and all the items here are reserved for this donation purpose.

Founded by King Norodom Sihanouk in 1993, Cambodia’s first peacetime national park is also one of the most historically significant sites in the country; its sandy shores and forested peaks served as a strategic location for Vietnamese forces during their uprising against the Khmer Rouge in 1979. In many ways, it feels as though Ream has changed very little since then. Its lush forests and pristine beaches remain largely untouched by tourism, with only a few small villages and guesthouses scattered within the park’s boundaries.Although some industry has emerged — including offshore oil and gas fields and a major military base — these developments do not detract from the park’s natural beauty or the sense of authentic Cambodia you experience while exploring it.

WHERE IS REAM NATIONAL PARK SIHANOUKVILLE CAMBODIA

Ream National Park, officially Preah Sihanouk Ream National Park, is a national park located in Prey Nob, Sihanoukville Province, southeastern Cambodia. It is located approximately 18 km from the port city and provincial capital of Sihanoukville.

When visiting Ream National Park, tourists will be taken on a round-trip transfer service. First, tourists will depart from the cruise ship for a journey of about 1.5 – 2 hours along the river to the sea, then they will stop at a fishing village in the rainforest for about 40 minutes to reach the beach. After stopping, tourists will be able to return to the fishing village for lunch (rice, salad, toast, local grilled fish) or dine at a Chinese restaurant on the beach (more expensive, but the seafood is excellent). It takes about an hour to reach the National Park from the center of Sihanoukville city.

Notes when visiting Ream National Park

  • Prepare suitable clothes: You should wear neat, cool clothes and wear sneakers or hiking shoes for convenience when trekking through forests, trails or mangrove areas.
  • Bring sunscreen and insect repellent: Ream has many dense forest and swamp areas, so there are quite a lot of mosquitoes, especially in the evening. Sunscreen is also necessary when visiting the beach and boating.
  • Bring enough drinking water and snacks: There are not many sales services inside the national park, so visitors need to prepare in advance to avoid fatigue when traveling long distances.
  • Follow the ranger’s instructions: When participating in trekking or boating routes, follow the ranger’s instructions to ensure safety and avoid getting lost.
  • Do not litter and limit the impact on the environment: Ream is an important nature reserve, so every visitor should bring their own trash bag and keep the landscape pristine.
  • Avoid touching wild animals: You may encounter monkeys, rare birds or some reptiles. Observe from a distance and do not feed the animals to ensure the safety of both people and animals.
