The Basics of Niu Niu

  1. The Deal: Each player is dealt five cards.
  2. Hand Formation: The goal is to divide your five-card hand into two groups:
    • Three-card hand: The sum of these three cards must be a multiple of 10.
    • Two-card hand: The value of this hand is determined by the units digit of the sum of the two cards.
  3. Card Values:
    • Face cards (Jack, Queen, King) count as 10.
    • Aces count as 1.
    • Number cards retain their face value.
  4. Determining the Winner:
    • Niu Niu: If both the three-card hand and the two-card hand have a sum ending in zero (e.g., 10, 20, 30), it’s a “Niu Niu.”
    • Hand Comparison: If both players have Niu Niu, the player with the higher two-card hand value wins. If both have the same two-card value, the player with the higher single card in the two-card hand wins.
    • No Niu Niu: If a player cannot form a three-card hand with a sum that is a multiple of 10, they lose the hand.
