Hung Nhi Son Pagoda (Ong Phung Pagoda)
Nestled on a mountainside, in the middle of the deep green forest of Ganh Gio hamlet, Duong Dong town, Phu Quoc, Hung Nhi Son Pagoda (also known as Ong Phung Pagoda) has a rare wild and idyllic beauty. The pagoda is not only a place for islanders to come to burn incense and worship Buddha, but is also associated with the nation’s revolutionary history.
Hung Nhi Son Pagoda was founded in 1945 by Venerable Thich Minh Phung and Nun Dieu Tuyet. Initially, the pagoda was just a simple small temple. Over the years, the pagoda was restored and expanded, becoming one of the important pagodas of Phu Quoc.
The name “Mr. Phung” originates from the local people’s affectionate calling for Venerable Thich Minh Phung, who publicly reclaimed wasteland and built this pagoda.
During the period from 1945 to 1975, Hung Nhi Son Pagoda was not only a place of worship but also an important secret base of the revolution. The pagoda nurtured and hid cadres, collected information on the situation, provided medicine and was a meeting place for local cadres.
Phap Quang Pagoda
Phap Quang Pagoda, also known as “Rich (Giau) Pagoda” because of the splendor and magnificence of its architecture, is one of the famous spiritual destinations in Phu Quoc. Located on Tran Hung Dao Street, Quarter 7, Duong To Commune, the pagoda not only attracts Buddhists to worship but is also an attractive tourist destination because of its unique architectural beauty and pure space.
Phap Quang Pagoda was built in 1986 and has undergone many restorations and expansions. The pagoda was initially just a small, simple temple, then Buddhists and philanthropists contributed to building it into the large architectural complex it is today.
Phap Quang Pagoda bears the mark of traditional Vietnamese architecture combined with modern style. The three-entrance gate is built of stone, intricately carved with images of two dragons flanking the moon. Inside the pagoda, the main hall is the main place of worship, with the statue of Shakyamuni Buddha placed in the center, surrounded by statues of Bodhisattva and Arhat.
A special feature of Phap Quang Pagoda is the meticulously carved Arhat statues, expressing many different nuances, from cheerful to thoughtful, from gentle to fierce. These statues not only have artistic value but also have profound educational significance about Buddhism.
Phap Quang Pagoda is located on a spacious, airy plot of land, surrounded by green trees and flowers. The temple space brings a feeling of purity and peace, helping visitors temporarily forget the chaos of life.
Sung Hung Pagoda Phu Quoc
Sung Hung Pagoda, also known as Sung Hung Co Tu, is one of the oldest and most sacred pagodas on the pearl island of Phu Quoc. With a long history, unique architecture and pure space, Sung Hung Pagoda is a spiritual destination that attracts a large number of tourists and Buddhists to worship and learn about Buddhist culture. The pagoda is located on a small hill, about 2km south of Duong Dong town center.
According to historical documents, Sung Hung Pagoda was built in the early 20th century on the foundation of a deserted cemetery. After many restorations and embellishments, the pagoda today has become a large and beautiful architectural complex, an important place of worship for the people of Phu Quoc.
Sung Hung Pagoda was built in traditional Vietnamese architectural style, with curved tiled roofs, sturdy ironwood columns and sophisticated decorative motifs. The pagoda has a three-entrance gate facing north, overlooking Duong Dong market. Above the gate is the name of the pagoda in Chinese and National language: “Sung Hung ancient pagoda”.
Inside the pagoda, the main hall is the main place of worship, with solemnly decorated Buddha statues. In addition, the pagoda also has other buildings such as the Patriarch’s house, guest house, flower garden and shrines worshiping Ba Chua Xu Nuong Nuong and national hero Nguyen Trung Truc.
Highlights of the temple:
- Open-air statue of Bodhisattva Guan Yin: The statue of Bodhisattva Guanyin standing on the lake is one of the highlights of Sung Hung Pagoda. The statue is carved from white stone, about 3 meters high, with a compassionate and kind beauty.
- Flagpole: The soaring flagpole in front of the main hall is a symbol of the majesty and sacredness of the temple.
- Shrine worshiping Ba Chua Xu and Nguyen Trung Truc: Sung Hung Pagoda also has a shrine worshiping Ba Chua Xu Nuong Nuong and national hero Nguyen Trung Truc, a place for people and tourists to come and burn incense to commemorate.
Duong Dong Holy House
Duong Dong Cao Dai Temple, also known as Phu Quoc Temple, is one of the important and unique spiritual destinations on the pearl island. This place is not only a place of worship for the Cao Dai religion but also a unique architectural work, attracting a large number of tourists to visit and learn about this religion.
Duong Dong Cao Dai Temple was founded in 1919, marking the appearance of Cao Dai religion on Phu Quoc island. Through many historical ups and downs and the contributions of many generations of believers, the temple has been restored and expanded many times, becoming one of the important religious centers of Cao Dai religion in Southern Vietnam. .
Duong Dong Cao Dai Temple bears the typical architectural features of the Cao Dai religion, with a harmonious combination of East and West elements. The highlight of the holy chamber is Thien Nhan (divine eye) – the symbol of the Supreme Being, placed in the central position on top of the main building.
Inside the sanctuary, the worship space is solemnly decorated with altars to worship the Supreme Being, religious leaders, predecessors and saints, fairies and Buddhas of other religions. In addition, the sanctuary also has many paintings, couplets and other works of art imbued with Cao Dai culture.
Duong Dong Cao Dai Temple is where Cao Dai followers come to worship, pray and learn about teachings. This is also the place to organize important events of Cao Dai religion such as worshiping ceremony for the Supreme Being, worshiping ceremony for religious leaders, worshiping Ba festival…

Palace of Mrs. Le Kim Dinh
Mrs. Le Kim Dinh’s Palace (also known as Ba Lon Tuong’s Tomb), the worshiping and resting place of Mrs. Le Kim Dinh, wife of national hero Nguyen Trung Truc. This place is an important historical and spiritual site in Phu Quoc, attracting a large number of tourists to visit and pray for peace and luck.
According to history books and local people’s accounts, Mrs. Le Kim Dinh, also known as Mrs. Lon Tuong, was a resilient and loyal woman. She followed her husband to Phu Quoc island to join the resistance war against the French. During this time, she gave birth to a son. After Nguyen Trung Truc sacrificed, she continued to raise her children and participate in revolutionary activities. She died in Phu Quoc and was revered by local people as a protective deity.
Dinh Ba has a simple but dignified architecture, with a bright red tile roof and sturdy wooden columns. Inside Dinh Ba there is a main altar worshiping Mrs. Le Kim Dinh and side altars worshiping other gods. Surrounded by a pristine, peaceful natural landscape, with fine white sand beaches and clear blue water of Phu Quoc shallow sea.
Activities at Palace of Mrs. Le Kim Dinh:
- Worshiping ceremony: Every year, on the death anniversary of Mrs. Le Kim Dinh (June 16 of the lunar calendar), local people hold a solemn worshiping ceremony at Dinh Ba to commemorate and pay tribute to her merits.
- Prayer: People and tourists come to Dinh Ba to pray for peace, luck and health.
- Sightseeing: Dinh Ba is an attractive destination for those who want to learn about the history and culture of Phu Quoc.
