The legend of Wat Sampov Pram Pagoda is full of mysteries
Wat Sampov Pram Pagoda and those boat-shaped rocks are associated with thrilling stories. The legend of Wat Samprov PRAM or Temple of the Five Boats is recited by Cambodians as follows: Once upon a time, there was a prince named Preah Thong. His father, in favor of his younger brother, asked the prince to give up everything for his younger brother. Really depressed, Prince Preah Thong decided to leave his country and travel around the world. During one of his expeditions, Prince Preah Thong found a very tall Tlork tree.
The Tlork tree produces seeds that are not only edible but can also be used to waterproof boats. This was what Prince Preah Thong needed the most at that time. Therefore, he ordered his servants to camp right near the Tlork tree. The next morning, when Prince Preah Thong walked on the beach in the morning, he saw a group of young girls playing near the beach. The Prince was immediately captivated and attracted by the beauty of a Nagani (Water Palace princess).
Love at first sight came to the two of them. Not long after, Prince Preah Thong asked Princess Nagani to take him to her father to ask for permission to marry. The princess looked into the prince’s eyes and said softly, “Please take my tail”. Then the princess led the prince into the deep sea to meet the Dragon King. The Dragon King was very pleased with Prince Preah Thong and agreed to let the two get married.

After 7 days at the Aquarium, prince Preah Thong wanted to leave to build his own kingdom and travel to explore the world with his newlywed wife. The Dragon King not only wished for the couple’s trip, but he also gave the prince and his wife 5 giant sailboats filled with jewels as a dowry.
Along with 500 servants, the prince and his wife went to the land where the Five Boat Pagoda is currently located. Prince Preah Thong decided to build his kingdom here. Prince Preah Thong was known as the father of Khmer civilization!
Over time, the sea water receded, the ground gradually rose and the five giant sailboats turned into rocks. Visitors to Samprov Pram Pagoda can see five boat-shaped stones that still exist today. That is the legend of Samprov Pram Pagoda (Pagoda of 5 boats), a story that not all tourists know when traveling to Bokor Mountain.
